Welcome to Ms. Love's 8th Grade Literature Classroom Wiki!

Through this wiki, you will have the chance to express yourselves and your ideas about literature in a variety of creative ways. This wiki will give you the opportunity to share your thoughts and view your classmates' creative ideas.

We will be focusing our efforts this trimester, on the novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian written by Sherman Alexie.

By the end of the trimester (June 9th), I would like you each to create a post/project on each of the following Wiki pages:

  • Music for Characters
  • Character-Inspired Art
  • Digital Stories

Discussion

I will also be monitoring the discussions taking place on our wiki. Each of you will be required to post one deep question in the "discussion" tab and thoughtfully respond to three of your classmate's questions over the course of the trimester.
What is a "deep" question?
A deep question encourages a person to critically think about a concept, theme, event, place, or personality. It is a type of question that causes a person to apply something from the novel to their own lives. Deep questions lead a person to drawing conclusions, making generalizations, and sharing personal beliefs or experiences.
(Maryland Department of Education)
Example of a deep question from the book, Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson, which we read earlier this year:
  • As you read Wintergirls, it is apparent that Lia and her parents have a bit of a rift in their communication. Unfortunately, communication is lacking between many teens and their parents these days. Do you feel that a lack of communication between a teenager and his or her parents can contribute to mental illness in a teen? If so, how? Are there certain parental downfalls/traits that may negatively affect a child's mental health during his or her teen years?

Lastly, please feel free to add links to pages if you feel they are related and helpful! This wiki is a place to collaborate and share ideas!
